AI is a power tool, not a pilot
5 min read

A table saw does not know what you are building. It makes one motion extremely well, and the quality of the result depends entirely on the person feeding the wood. AI is the same kind of tool. It is extremely good at a few motions: drafting, summarizing, transforming, suggesting. It has no idea what you are building or why.
That is not a criticism. It is the operating manual. A power tool you respect is the fastest way to work. A power tool you trust blindly is the fastest way to lose a finger.
Where the tool earns its place
Where it does not
Anything a customer will hold you to. Numbers, dates, prices, promises, names. The tool produces plausible text, and plausible is not the same as true. If it leaves your hands under your name, you checked it first.
Decisions that are yours to make. The tool can lay out the trade-offs, but picking is the job. Outsourcing the pick means outsourcing the accountability, and accountability does not actually transfer.
The rule that keeps you safe is one sentence long: a person stays on the hook for every output. Use the tool to go faster. Keep your name on what ships.
