Ship the boring version first

Every project has two versions: the one you describe to people, and the one that actually works. The gap between them is where projects die. The described version has onboarding tours, social integrations, and a settings page with thirty toggles. The working version has a form, a save button, and a page that shows the thing you saved.

The boring version is not a compromise. It is the product. Everything else is a guess about what people will want after they use the boring part, and most of those guesses are wrong.

What boring actually means

Boring means one clear job done completely. A receipt maker that makes receipts. A rate calculator that gives you a rate. It does not mean ugly or unfinished. It means you finished one thing instead of starting twelve.

The test is simple: can someone arrive, do the one job, and leave with the result in under two minutes? If yes, you have a product. If no, you have a homepage with ambitions.

How to decide what to cut

The boring version is a question

You ship the plain version because it is the cheapest way to ask the only question that matters: does anyone want the core thing? Every feature you add before that answer adds cost to a guess.

Ship the boring version. Watch what people actually do with it. Then spend your effort on the part they touched, not the part you imagined.
