Skill Files For AI App Builders: What They Are And What To Put In Them
3 min read

Building with an AI tool can mean repeating instructions: how you want the code organized, what to check before shipping, how to word the launch. A skill file stores those instructions so you can reuse them instead of retyping.
For a ready set, the App Builder Suite Pack offers skill files for building, shipping and growing a product.
What A Skill File Does
It is a text file of instructions your AI tool can read before doing a job. It describes the task, the steps, the standards and what finished looks like. Load the file through the supported workflow in your chosen tool, then check whether the output follows its instructions.
Write One Per Job
Keep each file focused. "Review this app before launch" is a job. "Help with everything" is not. Name the job, list the steps and state the output you want, such as a list of problems in order of severity.
A hypothetical example: a pre-launch review file might tell the tool to check sign-up, payment and error messages, report each issue with the steps to reproduce it, and not rewrite code unless asked.
Include Checks And Limits
Say what the tool should verify and what it should not do. Ask it to point out what it could not check. Review its output yourself, since a skill file guides the tool but does not make its output right.
Cover The Whole Lifecycle
Building is one stage. Shipping needs a pre-launch checklist, and growing needs content and conversion work. Separate files can keep the instructions for each stage easy to find and revise.
If You Want A Ready Set
The product page for the App Builder Suite Pack describes the full lifecycle for building, shipping and growing a product, with skill files for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI, plus the Launch Readiness Audit as a printable PDF. Updates are included.
Review the offer page before buying and confirm that the files support your chosen tool. Start with one job and check its output before reusing the instructions more widely.
