Why Visitors Don't Convert And How To Find The Friction

3 min read

If traffic arrives and few people sign up or buy, inspect the path between arrival and the final action. Record where people get stuck instead of guessing at the cause.

Define The Conversion

Pick one action: buy, sign up, book a call. Measure it if you can, so you know your starting rate. Without a baseline you cannot tell whether a change helped.

Walk The Path As A Visitor

Open the page in a private window and follow the route from arrival to conversion with a test account. Use a supported test environment for payment or booking actions and check what submit buttons do before clicking. Note each point where you hesitate, get confused or have to work. Do it on a phone as well as a laptop.

Common Friction Points

Check these: a headline that does not say what you offer; unclear next step; too many choices; forms asking for more than needed; slow loading; missing answers to obvious doubts; payment steps that surprise people. A hypothetical example: a signup form asking for a phone number when it is not needed.

Rank And Fix

List each friction point and rank by how much it blocks the action. Fix the biggest first. Change one thing at a time where you can, so you can see what worked.

Check Results

Compare rates over suitable periods and record changes in traffic source, audience or offer alongside the page edits. A before-and-after change can reflect those factors too. when you can, and treat small samples with caution.

If You Want Skill Files

The Conversion Optimization Pack is built around exactly this path: four skill files cover pages, forms, onboarding and popups, each turning points of confusion into prioritized fixes and test ideas. Setup instructions cover Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex CLI and Gemini CLI. Bring your journey and baseline numbers.
