What AI Is and Is Not
Lesson 4 of 10 - 13 min
Spot Errors and Bias
Look for invented facts, invented sources and a one-sided view. Models reflect the data they learned from, which can leave out people and viewpoints.
How to check
- Search for any name, quote or number you plan to use.
- Ask the model to argue the other side.
- Compare with a second source.
- Be careful with decisions about people.
Example (fictional)
A model writes a bio of a local business owner and states a founding year. A quick search shows it's wrong by five years. Another time you ask for advice on hiring and it assumes a single type of candidate. Asking it to argue the other side exposes the gap.
Common mistakes
- Trusting names, quotes and numbers without a search.
- Never asking for another view.
- Using it alone for decisions about people.
Exercise
Take one AI answer. Verify three facts with a second source. Ask the model for the opposing view.
