How To Build Trackable Links For Affiliate Partners
3 min read
If every partner shares your plain homepage link, you cannot tell who sent the traffic. A tagged link for each partner solves that, and it is a small amount of work done once.
The free UTM And Referral Link Builder takes a destination URL and optional source (partner name), medium, campaign and partner code, and builds a trackable link.
Give Each Partner Their Own Link
Use the partner's name for the source, so reports show who produced each visit. A fictional example: source=jane-newsletter, medium=email, campaign=spring-partners. A second partner gets their own source and the same campaign.
Keep Names Consistent
Pick one spelling and casing, lowercase with hyphens, and use it every time. "Jane-Newsletter" and "jane-newsletter" can appear as different values in reports.
Use A Partner Code Where It Helps
A partner code can identify the partner at checkout or in your own system, which helps if links get stripped or shared in places that remove parameters. Decide how your tracking reads the code before you hand it out.
Test Before You Share
Open the finished link yourself and check the page loads. Then confirm your analytics or affiliate system records the source and code from a test visit. A tagged link only helps if something reads the tags.
Keep A Record
Keep a simple list of which partner has which link and code, so you can match payouts to results.
Make A Partner Link
Open the UTM And Referral Link Builder, add your destination and the partner details, build the link and test it before sending it.
