How To Prepare Affiliate Partner Outreach And Onboarding

3 min read

An affiliate program only works if partners join and actually promote. Give prospective partners enough information to judge whether the product fits their audience. Recruiting is partly outreach and partly making it easy to get started.

Find The Right People

List people who already reach your customers: creators, newsletter writers, consultants and related businesses. A small list of relevant partners beats a big list of random ones.

Write Specific Outreach

Keep the message short. Say why you picked them, what the program offers and what you ask them to do. A hypothetical opener: "I read your newsletter on small-clinic finance, and I think my bookkeeping tool fits your readers." Avoid generic blasts.

Give Them A One-Pager

Create a short overview they can read in a minute: what the product is, who it is for, how the program works and how to join. Include commission, attribution, payout and disclosure rules so partners can assess the terms.

Reuse And Adapt Your Copy

Keep a bank of outreach messages and follow-ups you can adjust for each person. Adapt each one to the recipient instead of sending as written.

Onboard Quickly

When someone joins, send links, a short product description and answers to common questions. List the first steps they should take. Explain the approval and disclosure requirements for promotional materials.

Follow Up

Check in with partners who joined but have not promoted. Offer help, not pressure, and learn what is blocking them.

If You Want Ready Materials

The Affiliate Recruiting Kit has the materials this article has you make: outreach scripts, a partner one-pager, a swipe file of reusable outreach copy and an onboarding checklist. Prepare your program terms and audience criteria, then adapt the scripts to each person.
