How To Set Up An AI Agent For One Business Workflow
3 min read

An AI agent can handle steps in a business process, such as sorting incoming requests or drafting replies. Start with a bounded task and record the access, actions and review checks it needs.
Choose One Workflow
Pick a process that repeats and has a clear result. A hypothetical example: sorting incoming support emails by topic and drafting a reply for a person to approve. Write the steps as they work today.
Define The Agent's Authority
Say what the agent may read, what it may write and what it may never do. Start with limited access. Define approval requirements for messages, spending and record changes before connecting those actions. Reliable test output alone is not permission to act.
Decide The Handoff
Decide when the agent passes work to a person and what information it includes. Define what happens with cases it cannot handle.
Write The Instructions
Describe the task, the inputs, the output format and the standards. Give examples of good results. State what to do when information is missing.
Test On Real Cases
Use synthetic or permitted, redacted examples, including messy ones. Compare its output with what a person did and note the errors. Adjust and rerun.
Monitor After Launch
Review a sample of its work regularly. Keep a record of mistakes and change the instructions when patterns appear.
If You Want It Set Up For You
If you'd rather hand the setup to someone, AI Agent Setup sets up one agent for one defined business workflow, with the workflow and handoff confirmed before work starts. Bring the task, allowed inputs, approval points and expected output you just wrote down.
